The Peace and Democratic Transition Organization supports the decision by the US Department of State to impose sanctions on the Sudanese army. The move comes in response to evidence that troops used chemical weapons during clashes in 2024, violating international treaties. The organization describes this as a pivotal moment in combating impunity.
Chemical attacks part of broader pattern
According to documented reports and testimonies, the Sudanese army deployed prohibited weapons against civilians in recent months. These attacks form part of targeted actions against specific population groups, with systematic ethnic cleansing being carried out. During protests in Geneva and London earlier this year, the organization already highlighted the involvement of militias such as “Kitab al-Bara’ bin Malik”.

International pressure must intensify
The call now focuses on urging the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court to take similar steps. Additionally, the organization requests increased humanitarian aid in conflict zones, where shortages of medicine and food are acute. A sustainable solution, they argue, requires not only sanctions but also support for democratic reforms and an independent judicial investigation.

Practical aid and awareness essential
Beyond political measures, the organization stresses the importance of direct support for victims. Medical teams and local aid groups urgently require more resources to save lives. Simultaneously, global media are urged to maintain focus on the crisis to prevent international solidarity from waning.
